A masterpiece with only one flaw: the fishing campaign, which comes completely out of NOWHERE. Aside from that, I love the rest of the game so much. Sonic’s campaign is phenomenal to me, and all the other campaigns are amazing as well. My favorite, though, is E-102 Gamma’s. I was twelve when I finished playing it on my Dreamcast at my grandpa’s house, and I cried at the end. It was literally the first piece of media to make me feel sad because of a heartbreaking story.

The best Sonic game of all time by FAR. The boost formula is at its absolute peak, and Classic Sonic is so well done that it made me want to replay the classic trilogy just to experience more of it. Almost all the stages are fantastic, and the bosses are incredible—Egg Dragon easily ranks in my top 5 bosses of all time. A true masterpiece of the classic Sonic experience.

I unironically consider this game one of the top 3 kart games of all time—and that’s coming from a hardcore Mario Kart fan. It’s such a charming game, not only because it’s an excellent kart racer with enough variation to stand out from typical kart-likes but also because it’s a massive homage to SEGA and its other franchises. It’s amazing to see so many iconic characters return, maps that pay tribute to legendary titles, and a TON of content for offline players. It’s a shame that the sequel, Team Sonic Racing, doesn’t have even 1% of what this game offers.

This game is something curious. I think it’s amazing and features one of the best boss fights in gaming history. However, everything that doesn’t involve Sonic and Shadow is dreadful. Even so, I don’t hold that against it too much because of how much fun this game gave me. Plus, it has one of the best endings of all time.

I played this game thanks to Mega Collection Plus on the PS2, and it was such an incredible experience since it was my first time with classic Sonic. This game is pretty long and serves as a perfect, polished version of the first three titles. In fact, it’s so good that I regret starting with it because when I went back to play Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD, I hit a wall.

This game reignited my love for the franchise. It’s so well-made that it makes me forget how the Sonic IP has fallen from grace over the past 10 years. I loved almost everything about this game, but I think it’s time for SEGA to stop focusing so much on nostalgia and just go back to doing what works: delivering a decent game.

An absolutely incredible game. I was never much of a fan of classic Sonic, mostly because Sonic 1 and Sonic CD made me hate anything related to that era for years. But it only took an excellent project in the style of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 for me to realize I was wrong. This game is so good it doesn’t even feel like something Sonic Team would have made (and they didn’t—no way they’d pull off something like this, lol).

Such a fun game. It starts off a bit odd, but the gameplay becomes incredibly satisfying as you unlock new abilities and improve your proficiency. The story is surprisingly good—especially for a Sonic game—and, seriously, the designs in this game are absolutely amazing.

I spent countless hours playing this on my 3DS—it's simply so much fun. Water Palace made it into my top 10 Sonic stages of all time. The soundtrack has a strong Jet Set Radio vibe, and the stages are so unique that I was thrilled to see Water Palace return in Sonic Generations for the 3DS.

Charming, fast, with excellent level design, and a very solid entry in the franchise. Despite having two really frustrating stages, nothing takes away from the overall quality of this game.

This game is PEAK design from Sonic Team. The visuals are incredible, the gameplay is unique, the settings are one-of-a-kind, and the story is so engaging. Not to mention, the more cartoonish direction of the cutscenes adds a charm that’s often missing when they tell stories with Sonic.

Hold on, before you get mad, know that this is a modded version that fixes the game’s pacing, improves the targeting, and fixes the terrible homing attack. It also lets you unlock the final chapter by completing just three endings. Basically, it’s a well-made version of the game. There are still some issues, but I had so much fun with this version that I actually ended up liking (THIS) version of the game.

This game has such a unique charm. I think it’s somewhat "generic" when it comes to gameplay, but the foundation was solid, and they learned so much from it that the sequel turned out amazing. I really like this game, and I can see the appeal in replaying it. The character roster and Shadow on a motorcycle are incredible.

I know this might make me sound crazy, but I like this game. It’s the definition of "okay," with aspects outside of the gameplay that elevate it a lot—like the soundtrack, settings, and even the different gameplay style, which, for me, is a standout feature. I enjoy it quite a bit, but I get that it’s a bit complicated.

I’m fine with this game existing; I don’t have much to say about it, but I think it’s charming enough. The unique content compared to Generations HD is something I really enjoy. I know most people hate it, but I like all the different content—and since I’m a Sonic Rush fan, you can imagine why.

Such a harmless game. They stripped down the first title, but it still retains all the charm of its predecessor. It’s a good pick if you’re in the mood for something low-effort, but I find this game way too slow and sometimes unnecessarily difficult.
17
Such a ridiculous game—I love it.

This game would be the perfect Sonic title if it weren’t for the worst system in history: Moon Medals. Unfortunately, it doesn’t help that the Werehog gameplay features levels that last 30 minutes for no reason. The daytime stages and bosses are great, but that’s where it ends. I plan never to touch this game again.

This game could have been perfect if it stuck to 2 acts plus a boss. But once again, Sonic Team’s greed ruined it by cramming in 6 acts, with 4 of them being UNBEARABLE due to gimmicks that border on unplayable.
20
Sonic Team had the audacity to repeat the same campaign, same stages, and same cutscenes across four campaigns and thought that would make the game fun. If it had been reduced to two campaigns plus a final one, it could have been an excellent 7/10 game. But clearly, this team lacks common sense.

This game sits in the middle ground between letting you play and not letting you play, which becomes pretty frustrating in the long run. Just when you start gaining momentum, the game trips you up. However, it has enough charm and at least lets you build up some speed—unlike Sonic 1.
22
Aside from the bosses and Avatar stages, this game is the pinnacle of Sonic Team’s negligence. It’s proof that either they don’t care about Sonic or simply don’t know how to manage game development. Either way, SEGA should have disbanded Sonic Team after this title.
23
This game doesn’t let you play, and aside from the first stage, it felt like eternal punishment until I finished it. This game was endless torture, and I’m honestly amazed at how adored it is by nostalgic fans.
24
It’s impressive how, after Racing Transformed, Sonic Team managed to create one of the most flavorless kart games in history. And honestly, for a kart game to be boring, you really have to put in effort.
25
This game should be studied as one of the worst examples of game design in history. It feels like the game is actively fighting against the player to make the experience as frustrating as possible. And as if that wasn’t enough, someone at Sonic Team thought it was a brilliant idea to force players to complete 10 different endings just to unlock the final chapter.
26
Buggy, ugly, with a terrible story, awful movement, performance issues, and some of the dumbest mechanics in gaming history—this game is garbage in every aspect. Anyone who defends it has no self-respect.

"Never in history will there exist a game so devoid of soul that not even a boardroom of suit-wearing CEOs could create something this repul—

Don't agree with 90% of the list but still better ranking than any Sonic fan could do, at least '06 is on the bottom
